Feature and Follow Friday #4

bloglovin follows

Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. For more information on this neat blog hop, to see other bloggers’ Feature and Follow posts for this question, and to sign up check out both of those blogs at the links I’ve provided. It’s a great way to discover new bloggers, learn a thing or two about everyone who participates, and gain followers for your own blog.

The question this week is:

Share something you’ve learned about book blogging or just blogging in general in the past month.

Outside life can have drastic repercussions on blogging.  Three weeks ago, I started a new job.  I absolutely love my job where I get to work in a museum with its collections.  However, I had been unemployed for a full year prior to that where I could read as much or as little as I wanted in a given day.  When I started Reading the Alphabet, I was churning out book reviews every other day, but reading them faster than that.  Now I am happy to get an hour in each day.  Before this job’s opening was ever posted I signed up for a number of tours accepted a bunch of review requests and offered to review based on open calls on Twitter. Then I signed up for Netgalley. The result is 13 review posts in September for 14 books. It was fine back when I had no job. Now I better learn to speed read and quick!

I will get all of these things reviewed, so please don’t worry if you are an author, tour organizer, or book PR person that I’ve said yes to.  I committed to these reviews and I meet my commitments, that’s just how I am, but October is going to be a lot lighter.  I’m currently booking reviews 4-6 weeks in advance and soon it will be 6-8. I hope to do 2 reviews a week starting in October, with more participation in Cover Reveals, Guest Posts, etc. and continued participation in the memes I already do.  That’s a schedule I can live with, and it will all be scheduled on a calendar.  That’s my other takeaway this month. Use a calendar.

I had started writing again too, but until I’m done with the month of September, I don’t think I’ll have a moment to spare for it.  Balance is key, and here’s to a more balanced October.

So what have you learned about blogging this month?

Let me know in the comments below, and if you are participating, leave me a link to your Feature and Follow Friday so I can go check it out.
